Dimming of the Day

Being a working mom of a baby, there are days when life is happening so quickly it's like running alongside a moving train and trying to jump up to catch wherever it's going. Feet moving so fast you almost trip, arms reaching up at that car as it shakes back and fourth out of your grip - and when you're on....scenes flying past your view too quick to recognize where you even are. And equally there are days when you need to get off...taking leaps of faith in yourself that it's the right place to jump off those tracks and thump onto the ground without getting hurt. And then there are days...the most beautiful days when you're at your destination. Nothing is moving, and you're exactly where you need to be. It's the destination that has no physical location, but the feeling of peace, love, and safety in your heart. My job as a mommy is going to be trying as hard as I can to get here as often as I can...I'll jump on and off millions if miles of tracks to get here if I have to.

Today, this place is filled with lullaby music I've played for wolfie since he was born, his chest pressed against mine, our heart beats syncopated and thumping together. His breath on my neck, little fingers caressing my fingers, and feeling the little hairs on my lips while I kiss the top of his head...quiet house, and the "baby of mine"drifting in and out of sleep while the light outside the windows gets more pale. Dinner can wait, my jog can wait, the dirty clothes can wait....I'll catch the next train.
